Full of grace and hospitality, Kenya's people go to great lengths to welcome visitors from afar. As the communications and economic hub for East Africa, Kenya has developed infrastructure to help visitors travel through their magnificent countryside. Kenya boasts some of the world's most stunning and rare habitats: the Eastern shores of one of the world's largest lakes – Lake Victoria; the Masai Mara which is home to all of the “Big Five” animals (elephants, lions, leopard, buffalo and rhino); and Africa's second highest mountain, Mount Kenya, from which Kenya takes it's name. Kenya has a population of 30 million people with many different ethnic groups and languages. The official languages are both Swahili and English with many indigenous languages spoken exclusively in the most remote areas. Join us on this memorable journey to meet with fair trade artisans and tea growers plus with many stops along the way to enjoy the natural beauty and meet with civil society groups and environmentalists.

People to People tours and Peter Wahome, based in Nairobi, will be our host while we travel throughout Kenya. Peter is an Ashoka fellow born into a polygamous family in Kenya. While living in the Kibera Slums outside of Nairobi, he worked to educate himself and others to help end the cycle of destitution and poverty common to slum life. With Peter as our guide, we'll begin our journey in Nairobi where we'll meet with groups involved with social and environmental issues pertaining to orphaned children, women's and indigenous rights and preservation of the unique landscape of Kenya. We'll travel the Kenyan countryside to meet with co-operatives who handcraft wooden spoons, weave baskets, carve soapstone and grow some of the finest fair trade Kenyan Tea. Our group will enjoy a boat ride on Lake Victoria and visit with a local environmental center and radio station along her shores working to protect the lake's watershed. The majority of our trip will entail traveling throughout the countryside of Kenya meeting people and hearing their remarkable stories. We hope you'll join us on the unforgettable trip to Kenya!
