July 5th, 2007: Edo prepares for Grade 5
The photos are showing a boy his name is Edo with his brothers and his classmates. With the help of Higher Grounds Trading Co. they are building a new library and secondary school. In the past, children had to walk 5 miles to get to 5th grade. Starting in September the school will be in their community.
May 25th, 2007: Hand in Hand
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School in Traverse City, Michigan has been raising funds for the Ethiopia School Project with Higher Grounds! They sent a message of solidarity to the Afursa Waro school via our good friend Tadesse Meskela who we just saw in coffee conferences in Chicago and Long Beach!
April 19th, 2007: Daily Activities
In Ethiopia, coffee farmers still due the daily chores their ancestors have done years before. These activities are crucial to their daily survival. Each day they must fetch water using big pot, milk cows, and grind cereal crops using stone to feed their families.

February 20th, 2007: Fair Trade Premiums Help Build a New Classroom
Negelle Gorbitu, the fair trade coffee co-op, which is a member of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, has put their funds together from the sale of fair trade coffee to build a new classroom for their school. Click on the photos below to learn more.

February 7th, 2007: Dreaming of High School
Isias and some other children reflect on their schooling while on vacation for two weeks. Thanks to this photo project and help from many friends including Great Lakes Bioneers and the Neahtawanta Center, Isais and his classmates will soon have a library and new funds are going toward the construction of a secondary school.

Ato Gemede travels to Addis Ababa for the first time in his life to speak on the behalf of the coffee growers at a ceremony prepared by OXFAM America. Below are some questions raised for Ato by journalists with his responses.
