For the past two years, we have enjoyed small Gesha lots from Peruvian farmer Jeinner Cubas Vasquez. Again this year, we have a single bag of Jeinner's coffee, and after tasting through our initial roasts, we've decided to feature it in a blend with another small lot from neighboring producer Rolando Yohny Ocupa. (We also only have a single bag of Rolando's coffee, which is 100% Bourbon variety.) The third coffee is a natural process from Homer Alarcon Gayoso.

Bourbon, one of coffee's most famous cultivars, was originally grown on the French-colonized island of Bourbon (now called Réunion) off the southeastern coast of Africa in the 1700s. Its tall plant structure is spindly and delicate, making it highly susceptible to weather and disease, and cherry yields are relatively low compared to other varieties. Bourbon coffees are characterized for their sweetness.
