The photos below were taken by a Higher Grounds and On the Ground staff member. They show the long lines of Goma residents fleeing the city and moving slowly towards the city of Minova. As many residents make the long journey, they face the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from and what will happen to their homes. Earthquakes have constantly shaken the area since the eruption, and geologists fear that massive reserves of methane under Lake Kivu will be released, causing a mass asphyxiation event.
